As we find out tonight who will play in the 2010 World Cup Final it reminded me that recently this unused postage stamp design from the 1970 World Cup was recently uncovered by archivists at the BPMA. This design was by one of the UK’s most prolific stamp designers, David Gentleman and would have celebrated England’s successive World Cup victory following its win in 1966, however for obvious reasons it was never commissioned. I’m not sure there is a need to ever prepare one for a future England win. More info can be found here.
